Ground Fault Circuit Interrupters
(GFCIs) provide almost instant protection by interrupting the
flow of electrical current when it senses an electrical ground
fault.
- GFCI protected outlets should be used where you are most
vulnerable:
•
when working outdoors – exterior outlets.
• in all bathrooms.
• within 1 meter of your kitchen sink.
- A licensed electrical contractor should be contacted
if you have a home without GFCI protected outlets to
define your
requirements.
- A licensed electrical contractor should be used to connect
a GFCI outlet to a standard outlet to ensure proper connection
and functionality.
- GFCI protected outlets do not always mean that you are
protected – outlets
should be tested monthly to ensure they are properly
working.
- Consider purchasing portable GFCI protection – plug
ins or extension cords to protect you and your family
when working outdoors.
